Prestigious manufacturer of automotive lighting, requires an experienced Buyer to join their busy, expanding team.  Based in Redditch, this role is offered as a permanent contract with competitive salary and attractive company benefits.  Previous experience within a similar role within automotive industry, specifically injection moulding would be beneficial.

Reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager, as Buyer, you will:

  • Actively engage in the entire lifecycle of the products from design phase until the end of production
  • Have day-1 involvement in new projects / product engineering
  • Liaise with engineering personnel to confirm product performance criteria and specifications for manufacturing and testing to facilitate the procurement of parts
  • Be involved in supplier nomination of Injection Mould Tooling and / or parts
  • Be responsible for Supplier Development & Management
  • Update purchasing information systems. (SAGE)
  • Liaise with Quality to monitor quality and QA systems
  • Support Engineering to identify suppliers available for sourcing
  • Issue RFQs to suppliers and negotiate terms and conditions, prices & delivery
  • Review, analyse and clarify quote packages from suppliers and compare to Budgets in detail to include UK Vs Overseas comparisons
  • Issue PO's for Prototype Parts and Prototype/Production Tooling
  • Identify and negotiate commercial cost reduction opportunities
  • Negotiate cost changes related to product design changes
  • Ensure that materials with a long lead times are ordered in a timely manner to fulfil production demands whilst ensuring that inventory levels do not rise above budgeted targets.

Essential skills/attributes requirements for Buyer role:

  • Previous experience in purchasing/buying ideally with some injection mould tooling knowledge (not essential)
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems
  • An understanding of BOMs and how they are created & costed
  • IT Literate – good working knowledge of Stock Control software and SAGE
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy at all times
  • Effectively prioritise work load in order to meet set deadlines
  • Strong communication skills

Location:  Redditch

Hours of Work: Mon to Thurs 8 am to 5 pm, Fri 8 am to 1 pm (39 hours)

Salary:   In the region of £30,000 p.a. to £35,000 p.a.
