Grounds Maintenance Operative

Established Facilities Management organisation requires an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative to join them providing excellent ground services to clients across a broad area of sites, reporting directly to Head of Grounds and Landscaping. Successful candidate must have at least 3 years’ experience within grounds maintenance and a valid UK driving licence. Offered as a permanent contract, hours of work may vary dependent upon season and clients’ requirements, so applicants need to be flexible regarding out of hours and weekend working.

Your main purpose as Grounds Maintenance Operative will be to ensure work is carried out to highest standard, liaise with clients and report issues to Head of Grounds.  Duties would include:

  • Grass/Hedge Cutting and Strimming, Litter Picking Emptying of Bins, Weeding, Removing Waste i.e. fly tips, Tree Works
  • Ensuring health & safety and environmental procedures are followed and risk assessments are completed while on site. 
  • Ensuring all tools are safe to use and are looked after by team crew members.
  • Reporting any misuse of equipment and vehicles to the Head of Grounds
  • Be aware of and proactive in following the Company Environmental Policy, report any noted non-conformances in respect of instructed Environmental procedures to Environmental Focal Point.
  • Keeping the department work area clean, tidy and well organised.
  • Participating in training and attending meetings with Head of Grounds, Team Leaders and other Grounds Operatives.
  • Informing the Head of Grounds of any personal or health issues regarding the team that are causing concern and any change of personal information such as home address, telephone number etc.
  • To follow standard operating procedures to maintain quality (BS EN ISO 9001: 2008), health and safety (OHSAS 18001: 2007) and environmental (ISO 14001: 2015) management compliance.
  • To demonstrate company values in regard to customer service, courtesy to all clients, suppliers, sub-contractors, work colleagues and other agency professionals.
  • Other duties that may be required as requested by the Head of Grounds and Landscaping.

Skills/Experience required by successful candidates for the role of Grounds Maintenance Operative:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within Grounds Maintenance  
  • Drivers licence (essential)
  • DBS check
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to organise and manage time
  • Flexibility
  • Committed to excellent customer care

Location: Oxford

Hours of Work: Mon to Fri 7 am – 3.30 pm/40 hours total (work times will vary – flexibility required)

Rate of Pay: £10 per hour (possible increase to £12.50 based on performance, time-keeping etc.)
