Specialist Law Firm, innovative and ambitious in approach, seeks a confident Paralegal (Criminal), able to provide excellent service to their extensive client base. Town centre location, joining a team of dedicated professionals, your role as Paralegal, working within the Crown Court Criminal Department, would be to provide effective secretarial and administrative support to Directors and Fee Earners across all departments and to be responsible for maintaining and/or acquiring the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to perform the functions described below.

Offered as a permanent contract, the position of Paralegal is a full-time role (Monday to Friday) with competitive salary, dependent upon experience and immediate start available. Ideal candidate would possess previous experience within a Criminal Law Practice, be highly organised, reliable and have excellent attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities of Paralegal:

  • Instruct Counsel/Barristers for Crown Court clients
  • Make appointments, arrange meetings and maintain an up-to-date diary and input key dates into the central diary
  • Instruct all experts including Psychiatrists and Psychologists in relation to Crown Court matters and forward any related invoices to Cashier/Accounts
  • Assist in extraction of data and evidence in preparation of Crown Court matters
  • Prepare all files for billing
  • Where appropriate and qualified, attend Court with Counsel, take notes and assist when requested
  • Prepare and update bundles for use at court hearings
  • Obtain appropriate documentation for the purposes of complying with ID requirements
  • Attend clients both face to face, via telephone and email in order to support/facilitate their matter
  • Type any correspondence, memoranda, court documents, file notes, proofs of evidence, questionnaires or any other document whatsoever that may be required
  • Ensure that all work is correct with regard to spelling, punctuation and grammar, and is neatly presented
  • Deal accurately with filing, storage and retrieval of clients’ files and that such files are kept in an orderly condition
  • Fully familiarise and be conversant with relevant Office Manual and ensure compliance with quality control procedures for all matters directly within your control
  • Attend courses appropriate and applicable to your area of work
  • Attend Fee Earners, Department and other meetings as required
  • Set up new files accurately and speedily when required
  • Ensure the positive representation of the Practice in all dealings with clients and others
  • Ensure compliance with all office procedures as laid down in the Office Manuals including any variations or amendments

Skills and Experience required by Paralegal:

  • Previous experience within a Criminal Law Practice
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • To meet the minimum requirements as laid down by the Law Society / Solicitors Regulation Authority for the area of work for which you are deployed

 

Location: Redditch, Worcestershire

Hours of Work: Mon to Fri 9.00 am – 5.00 pm (35 hours per week)

Salary:  £24,000 – £28 ,000 p.a. dependent upon experience

Contract: Permanent
